I'm sure there was a post somewhere about the best route to take when driving from the UK to Bulgaria, cheapest roads, countries to avoid, best stop over places...but I can't find it, maybe it was on a different forum altogether, so, if anyone who has driven it before, or knows the journey well, please reply here.My buddies and I are taking a coach over next Spring (2012) so it would be really usefull to know best overnight parking places, fuel stops, most direct routes (least tolls)....all of that sort of stuff. (my sat nav wont tell me all that) Cheers all. Duke.

Things have changed quite a but from when I did the trip back in 2006. Roads through Romania now much better. We just used road side motels, although did stay in a lovely place in Germany. No idea of where it was or details of the place though!

Found it finally...but it seems the advice is to go the Romania way...just avoid Serbia and Croatia, though there was some suggestion to do Italy and Greece...but that's too much messing about on ferries...bet it's a nice drive though if you have all the time in the world and dont just want to get there quick...

Yes the ferry route is a nice one. We do this often. If you have time Croatia is fabulous and worth a trip. I know many people that drive through Serbia and say it is much quicker as motorway all the way, but you should fill up with petrol before entering and try not to stop en-route. And need to ensure your car insurance covers it.
