Sofia Echo: Thursday August 5th
Ryanair is launching its first Bulgarian connection from London Stansted to Plovdiv, a company media statement said on August 5 2010.
The new route will bring Ryanair’s annual traffic at Plovdiv to about 30 000 passengers, while sustaining 30 local jobs permanently in the process, according to the media statement.
The news that the company will be operating from to and from Plovdiv was reported early in 2010. Again, in May, Ryanair, confirmed it contemplated flying to and from Bulgaria’s second largest city starting September 2010, Bulgaria's Deputy Economy and Tourism Minister Ivo Marinov was quoted as saying at the time by Bulgarian-language media.
To launch flights to Bulgaria, Ryanair asked for lower landing fees charged by the country's airports, Marinov said during a discussion in Parliament on the topic of Bulgarian tourism.
Now, Ryanair celebrated this new Plovdiv route by offering eight euro seats across its network for travel in September to November which are available for booking until midnight August 5, the media statement said.
"Ryanair is delighted to announce its first Bulgarian connection from London Stansted to Plovdiv to provide Bulgarian consumers and British visitors the guaranteed lowest fares from/to Bulgaria"
"The new route will ensure that Plovdiv and its regional tourism will develop further and even more jobs will be created both in the city and in the region," Ryanair said.

However, Bulgarian Air management were not impressed and are intending to protest to Brussels at the privileges granted to Ryan Air.
