The Tierschutz mission is mainly a dog rescue centre (although do take in a few cats) in Burgas. It is situated on municipality property somewhere near the estuary I think. There is an office close to the centre of the city at 35 Slvyanska Street, run by Margarita Peeva.
A friend of a friend I think told me about this place when I was desperately trying to rehome 2 of my dogs (mother I still have had 4 pups just after I got her). But no one seems to know about this centre.
The main supporter of the mission and hence its name (animal protection) is a German journalist by the name of Christa Schechtl, who is based in Munich. She is involved with a number of such rescue centres in various places - Romania, Ukraine, Turkey....I am not totally certain as my German is rather rusty but think each year she raises money to transport around 15 to 30 dogs back to Germany from these various centres to rehome them there.
There is a magazine which she produces - Der Schei (http://www.der-schrei.de). If you go to the site and click on Ausgabe 3 and then the Bulgarian Tatort, there are details there about the Burgas centre but all in German.
I am arranging a meeting with her in September in Burgas to discuss fund raising ideas for the centre.
I understand from my last correspondence with Margarita that they are getting a website set up. I have asked her again about progress on this.
My idea would be to get a group of us together to support this rescue centre in Burgas. It would need someone close to Burgas who speaks either reasonable Bulgarian or German to communicate and be the 'go-between'. Definitely ensure website up and running and updated with photos of dogs, fund raising etc. And then do fund raising events such as book sales, maybe meet ups, theme evenings, lots we can do but needs proper organising and over seeing.
If people are interested can they let me know.
